2024 Keynote Speakers

Reid Carpenter
& John Guest

Reid Carpenter began his ministry in 1961 serving as the Pittsburgh area director for Young Life and, subsequently, the director of Young Life’s Northeast Division. He founded the Pittsburgh Leadership Foundation (PLF) in 1978 and he was also the founder of what is now PLFs parent organization, Leadership Foundations. During and after his 20-year tenure as President of PLF, Reid helped to establish dozens of organizations to address a wide variety of human needs in the city—organizations that include Pittsburgh Kids Foundation, Amachi Pittsburgh, The Education Partnership, and the “Amen to Action” movement that addresses food insecurity.

John Guest was born and raised in Oxford, England, and committed his life to Christ at a Billy Graham crusade at age 18. He moved to the United States to work for Scripture Union USA. He served at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Sewickley as Youth Pastor and Rector for over 20 years. John was the founder of The Coalition for Christian Outreach, a ministry that now mobilizes churches across the country to reach college students with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry. He is the Founding Pastor of Christ Church at Grove Farm, where he continues to serve as Minister-at-Large.

Reid Carpenter and John Guest are friends and pioneers of faith who are living examples of the theme of this year’s prayer breakfast – “Paving the Way for the Next Generation”!  As young adults, they were inspired by the words of Reverend Samuel Shoemaker “that Pittsburgh will one day be as famous for God as it is (today) to steel.” Given their investment into next generation leaders, they have helped to make that vision become a reality!
